The best IPTV players for iPhone and iPad in 2026

By the Supernova developer · · 5 min read

On a phone or a tablet, an IPTV player is used differently than on a TV: a few minutes of live TV on the go, an episode in bed, a film downloaded before a flight. Touch navigation, Picture in Picture and offline viewing matter much more than on the big screen.

As always: these apps are players only. None of them provides channels, movies or a subscription. You add your own M3U playlist or Xtream account, from a source you are authorised to use.

What matters on iPhone and iPad

  • Touch-first navigation. Large posters, a readable TV guide and quick search make the difference on a 6-inch screen.
  • Picture in Picture. Keep watching in a small window while you reply to a message. Check whether it is included or part of a paid plan.
  • Offline downloads. Useful for trips, as long as your source allows downloading the files it gives you.
  • Sync with your other devices. If you also watch on Apple TV or Mac, iCloud sync of favourites and progress lets you pick up exactly where you left off.
  • File formats. Apple’s own player handles HLS and MP4; MKV and some TS streams need an app with a second playback engine.

Supernova (our app)

Supernova runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac, and it is one app: buy Premium once and it works on every device with the same Apple account.

  • Sources: M3U playlists (by URL) and Xtream accounts.
  • Free: unlimited playback of live TV, movies, series and replay, one account or playlist, and iCloud sync of profiles, favourites and watch progress with your other Apple devices.
  • Premium: $1.99 per month with a one-week free trial, $17.99 per year, or $29.99 per year for Family (up to 6 members). It adds more accounts and playlists, Picture in Picture, offline downloads, Chromecast and actor filmographies.
  • Playback: two engines on iPhone and iPad, Apple’s player and VLC, so MKV, TS and other formats that Apple’s player refuses still play. If a stream fails, Supernova can fall back to VLC automatically, and you can pick the engine separately for live TV, movies and series, and replay.
  • Strengths: movie and series pages with posters, plots, cast and seasons from TMDB, even for a plain M3U playlist; profiles for each member of the family; a clean, dark interface; six languages. On iPad, the layout uses the extra space rather than stretching the phone version.
  • Good to know: it needs iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, and it is a young app with few ratings so far.
  • Best for: people who watch on several Apple devices and want the same app, the same library and the same progress everywhere.

If you also have an Apple TV, see our comparison of IPTV players for Apple TV: that is where Supernova’s own engine, with Dolby Vision and Atmos, comes in.

FAQ

Do these apps include TV channels?

No. They are players. You need your own M3U playlist or Xtream account from a source you are authorised to use. Paying for a player unlocks app features, never content.

Can I use the same app on iPhone and Apple TV?

All six apps in this list also run on Apple TV. What differs is sync: with Supernova, profiles, favourites and progress follow you through iCloud for free; other apps include sync in their paid plan or not at all. Our step-by-step guide for Apple TV shows how to set it up.

Why won’t some videos play on my iPhone?

Apple’s built-in player does not open every format, MKV in particular. Apps with a second engine, such as VLC inside Supernova, can usually play them. If a stream still fails, the problem is often the source itself (an expired link or an unsupported codec).

Is there an IPTV player for iPad with a real tablet layout?

Most of these apps run on iPad, but not all of them adapt their layout. Look at the iPad screenshots on each App Store page before you install.
